Shadow congratulates Brett Helmbrecht, member of the Washington Youth Soccer Elite Player Development Boys ’98 team (and Shadow B97 U14 Navy), who won the 2012 US Youth Soccer Region IV Olympic Development Program Championship in Phoenix, AZ, February 16, 2012.  Brett and his teammates went 3-0 in group play and defeated Cal North 2-0 in the final!  Washington’s Elite Player Development (EPD) program is a joint venture of Washington Youth Soccer and Seattle Sounders FC.  Way to represent, Brett!

Shadow B93 U18 Navy and G94 U17 Navy joined 130 other teams at the January 13-16 FC Portland Winter College Showcase 2012.  Over 100 college coaches, representing 58 colleges and universities were present, providing a great opportunity for players interested in pursuing the next level of competitive soccer.  Shadow teams fared well against solid competition:
G94 U17 Navy, coached by Kevin Moon:  Won Flight E, with a 2-2-0 record
G93 U18 Navy, coached by Matt Leonard:  Battled in Flight E, with a 2-1-1 record

Six Shadow players will enjoy a weekend of warm weather and incredibly competitive soccer in Phoenix, AZ, as they represent our club and state at the Region IV ODP Championships January 14-17!  Congratulations and best of luck to our Shadow players competing in this outstanding event:

Shadow G97 U14 Navy captured the 2011 NW Champions League crown on Sunday, December 4 in Seattle and guaranteed their automatic acceptance into the 2012 San Diego Surf Cup next August!  NW Champions League Finals Weekend scores:

Washington Youth Soccer’s Elite Player Development (EPD) Program is a collaboration with the Seattle Sounders FC where elite youth soccer players find additional training and competition.  Players compete regionally and nationally against other state associations and are seen by college and U.S. Soccer scouts.  Shadow congratulates its 22 premier players announced to the 2011-2012 WA Elite Player Development Program:

Thanksgiving weekend was a busy one for six Shadow high school girls and boys teams who competed in college showcase tournaments featuring coaches ranging from the Community College level to NCAA Division I Universities.  Having just completed high school soccer seasons, Shadow G95 U16 Sky, G95 U16 Navy, G94 U17 Navy and G93 U18 Navy players traveled to Tukwila, WA, to compete in the Field Turf Cup.

With five first half goals in an 11-0 shutout victory over Dayton in District 7/9 2B/1B playoffs, including three assists from his brother Erik (above, right), Karl Muelheims (above, left), a senior at Saint George’s High School, has become his school’s career leading scorer with 102 goals.  His team has advanced to the elite 8 and will play Waitsburg-Prescott on Saturday.  Muelheims was named to the October 9-15, 2011 WIAA/Seattle Times state athletes of the week for netting 10 goals and three assists in three wins.  He had a four-goal game to help the Dragons clinch the league championship.  Congratulations Karl!

Shadow congratulates our G97 U14 Navy team for their impressive 4-0-2 pool play record in Northwest Champions League!  Coached by Kara Sharpe, the team has advanced to the final weekend (top 4 teams) to be played December 3 & 4 at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA. Winner of the final weekend gets an automatic bid to Surf Cup.

Congratulations to two Shadow premier teams on a very successful and fun weekend in Portland, highlighted by five wins and just one loss, in the Northwest Champions League inaugural weekend where they are competing among the twelve "best in the Northwest" teams in their age groups: G97 U14 Navy, coached by Kara Sharpe (won 4-0 vs Sting SC Roop, won 2-1 vs FC Nova - Super Nova Elite, won 1-0 vs Tualatin Soccer Club TM Rage) and 
B00 U11 Navy, coached by Niko Varlamos (lost 4-2 vs Crossfire Premier B00 Black, won 3-1 vs Bridlemile SC Portland 00B, won 9-0 vs Eugene Metro FC Rovers Blue).

Shadow congratulates our players and coaches who competed August 12-14 in the Northwest Cup.  Special highlights were the Girls U12 Challenge Silver Division championship title for G99 U12 Shadow United who scored 19 goals and ended with a +11 goal differential for the weekend.  On the premier side, several Shadow U10 players organized a team and competed a year up in the BU11 Challenge Division, winning the championship.  Another solid tournament effort was put forth by Shadow's B00 U11 Navy team, winning the BU11 Premier Division title.

Shadow team accomplishments:

Shadow G95 U16 Navy added another tournament championship to their resume at the Colorado Rush 2011 Denver Cup with a 3-2 win over the Pride SC Predators to capture the Girls U16 Gold Division!  The team was undefeated in pool play with wins over Colorado Edge Select (1-0), Evolution Futbol Flames (2-1), Colorado Rush Nike G95/96 (4-0) and Pride SC Copa 96 (3-0). With head coach George Hageage unavailable for the tournament because of the opening of training camp for EWU women’s soccer, coaches Kevin Moon, Bryan Olson and Cameron Bushey shared coaching duties

Solid tournament results continued for Shadow premier and select teams at the July 29-31 River City Cup.  Shadow B99 U12 Navy, coached by Niko Varlamos, won the BU12 A Division with a 8-0 win over XIFA Koller.  Shadow G96 U15 Navy, coached by Cameron Bushey, won the GU15/16 Gold Division with a 5-1 win over Tynecastle Alliance.

Coached by Julio Morales, Shadow’s B95 U16 Navy team won three of their four matches at the Fullerton Rangers 9th Annual Summer Classic Tournament July 23 & 24, 2011, in Fullerton, CA.  With wins against FC Man United Red (2-0), Fullerton Rangers Blue (2-1 & 5-4), the team lost 1-2 to Arsenal FC-S White in the Championship.  Congratulations Shadow!

July 15-17, 2011, found eight Shadow premier teams competing in the Beaverton Cup 2011.  A strong showing by all Shadow teams present made the coaches and parents very excited about the player development strides these teams have made since tryouts.  Congratulations to the three Shadow teams who received extra accolades:

Shadow congratulates B97 U14 Navy players Brett Helmbrecht and Noah Bushéy on being named to the USYSA Region IV ’98 Boys Player Pool, after attending Regional Camp with Washington’s Olympic Development Program.  This marks the first time that if not ever, then in the past decade, two male players from the same Spokane-area club team have been named to the Regional Pool.  Congratulations!

Coached by George Hageage, Shadow’s G95 U16 Navy team were U15 Super Group Finalists in the US Club Soccer National Cup X tournament at the 60 Acres Complex in Seattle, WA, June 25-28, 2011.  Shadow posted wins over Havoc (2-0), Three Rivers SC G95 Weber (2-0), Hawaii Rush 96G Nike (2-0 & 2-1 in Semi-Finals).  They came up short to THUSC Sodium in the Finals (1-3).  Way to go Shadow!

Over 300 premier players and parents joined in the first Shadow Jamboree on Sunday, June 5 at Dwight Merkel Sports Complex.  Celebrating Shadow’s four pillars - development, competition, community and enjoyment - each team played three scrimmages with other Shadow teams.  What a fantastic way to celebrate our club and kick off the 2011-2012 season!  Special thanks to our Shadow premier coaches and Board of Directors for coordinating a great event.  Go Shadow!

Eighteen Spokane Shadow players were named to Spring 2011 High School All-League Teams in boys soccer, baseball, softball, tennis and track & field!  Shadow congratulates these players on their many accomplishments!

Congratulations to the 11 Shadow players who competed in Washington Youth Soccer/Seattle Sounders FC’s Elite Player Development Program 2011 Northwest Invitational held May 20-22, 2011 at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, WA:  Holly Hamer, Kelsey Turnbow, Alea Acosta, Noah Bushey, Brett Helmbrecht, Savannah Hoekstra, Kelcie Hedge, Larkin Russell, Maia Angell, Jessica Kennedy and Rachel Ryan. 

Spokane Shadow Youth Soccer Club Premier teams competed in the two highest level, state-wide tournaments:  the USYS Washington State Championships and the WYS Challenge Cup.  20 Shadow Premier teams entered, 16 advanced, and two teams won Challenge Cup Championships!
